TWO CHRISTMAS STORIES

THE MIRACLE OF THE POINSETTIA. The poinsettia or "Flower of the Holy Night" brings bright red flowers at Christmas. The legend is about a poor young girl who wanted to take a gift to baby Jesus at midnight mass on Christmas Eve. She had nothing. Angels appeared to her on the way to church and told her to pick a bunch of weeds. As she walked into church everyone laughed at her but suddenly the weeds became beautiful red flowers and everyone was amazed.

FATHER CHRISTMAS. Nicholas was the son of wealthy parents who died while he was still young. Nicholas decided to dedicate his life to God. He eventually became a bishop and was very kind and generous. Where he lived there was a family who were poor. The father could not provide a dowry for his three daughters and they couldn’t marry. One day the daughters found bags of gold into their stockings, which were hanging near the chimney to get dry. This meant that the girls could marry respectably and their father didn’t have to worry any more.

When Dutch settlers arrived in New York (New Amsterdam) they brought the traditions of St. Nicholas with them. The Dutch name for him was Sinter Klaas.

Carols lyrics

CHRISTMAS CAROLS

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Chorus

We wish you a Merry Christmas,

We wish you a Merry Christmas,

We wish you a Merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year!

Good tidings we bring

To you and your kin.

Good tidings for Christmas

And a Happy New Year!

Oh bring us a figgy pudding,

Oh bring us a figgy pudding,

Oh bring us a figgy pudding,

And a cup of good cheer.

We won’t go until we get some,

We won’t go until we get some,

We won’t go until we get some,

So bring some out here!

Chorus

JINGLE BELLS

Chorus

Jingle bells, Jingle bells,

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a

One horse open sleigh.

Jingle bells, Jingle bells,

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a

One horse open sleigh.

Dashing through the snow,

In a one horse open sleigh,

Over fields we go,

Laughing all the way.

Bells on bobtails ring,

Making spirits bright.

What fun it is to laugh

and sing a sleighing song tonight.

Chorus

A day or two ago,

I thought I’d take a ride.

And soon Miss Fanny Bright,

Was seated by my side.

The horse was lean and lank,

Misfortune seemed his lot

We got into a drifted bank,

And then we got upsot.

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer

Had a very shiny nose,

And if you ever saw it

You would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer

Used to laugh and call him names.

They never let poor Rudolph

Join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve

Santa came to say,

“Rudolph, with your nose so bright,

Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

Then how the reindeer loved him,

As they shouted out with glee,

“Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer

You’ll go down in history!”

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas

From the bottom of my heart!
